It isn't just the input of science and technology that makes the Marksman rods so extraordinary, there are other very important considerations. They've utilised the input from their enviable line-up of top consultants and expert rod designers. Alan Yates has spent nearly three years on the design project and John Bailey has been testing the rods on the bank for nearly as long. So have many others, including Dave Coster. All have been pushing the prototypes to the limits. The Specialist Feeder 11ft - £339 is a versatile rod designed for close and medium range work on both rivers and stillwaters. Slim, lightweight and with a crisp action, the Specialist Feeder has power in the butt for added casting performance and fish-playing control, whilst the carbon tips and top section blend together seamlessly to produce a soft tip action.Whilst this model is primarily designed for close work with bombs and light feeders, it still has plenty of power when hook a big, strong fish, making it perfect for tench, bream and medium sized carp as well as chub and barbel. There’s also plenty of finesse built in, so by using the sensitive 1oz and 2oz carbon quivertips you can fish successfully for smaller species like roach, crucians and perch. The 3oz quivertip is designed for faster flows and when fishing for drop-back bites. Hardy Marksmen Specialist Feeder 12ft - £349 Many anglers appreciate a longer quivertip rod, so we’ve added the Specialist Feeder 12ft to the range. Its a great rod that can cover just about everything a feeder rod needs to do. The super high modulus blank has excellent casting power, but is tempered with a progressive, smooth anti-lock action which allows a much wider range of tackle to be used. This rod has no problems coping with hard fighting species like carp and barbel, where control is vital. The Specialist Feeder 12ft really is a ‘go anywhere’ feeder rod that’s suited to a wide variety of river and stillwater fishing situations, with a reserve of casting power for launching all types of feeders a long way. The Hardy Anti-Lock fish-playing action allows a wide choice of reel lines and hooklengths to be used and is mellow enough for soft mouthed skimmers and bream. The rod is supplied with 2oz, 3oz and 4oz carbon quivertips, though stillwater anglers fishing for bream have the option of purchasing softer tips if necessary. Marksman Specimen Feeder 13ft - £359 The Marksman Specimen Feeder isn’t for the faint hearted! Its casting performance is remarkable and performs long casts with large feeders with ease. The 3oz, 4oz and 5oz carbon quivertips prove that this rod is for anglers who don’t want to be run around by a large fish. It’s brilliant for fast water fishing, especially on large rivers like the Trent, Severn, Thames and Wye where the 13’ length really comes into its own. This rod makes it easy to pick off far bank chub and barbel with maggot filled blockend feeders, yet is equally at home catching big bream or tench from large lakes using big groundbait feeders. Try it also for distance casting for carp using method feeders. Immensely powerful though this rod is, the *Anti-Lock action gives added security when playing fish at close range. *Hardy Anti-lock is built in to all Marksman rods. Essentially, when the rod is under load, in a fish-playing situation, it continues to transfer the power, and lunges of the fish, into the rod curve rather than bottoming out too quickly. This greatly reduces the chances of hook pulls, and makes fish playing a truly rewarding experience. By using a special blend of carbons and optimum resin ratios, Hardy have fine tuned the Marksman range to offer ultra high performance rods that retain that all important fish-playing feel 10ft Marksmen Bomb - £259 The Ultralite Bomb is a super light, yet surprisingly powerful quivertip rod that comes into its own when targeting fish under hard conditions or in tighter situations. It is equally at home on slow paced rivers, small overgrown stillwaters and man-made fisheries. Even larger lakes, where fish patrol the margins, are suitable for this highly sensitive rod, which copes beautifully with accurate, short to mid range legering and light feeder work. Sensitive 1oz and 1.5oz carbon quivertips are supplied, for enhanced bite detection. The *Hardy Anti-Lock action, incorporated into the blank, produces almost ‘electric’ fish-playing experience.
